Is A Doorless Shower A Good Idea?

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

A doorless shower, also known as an open shower, is a beautiful look for your custom bathroom remodel – but is it practical? Many homeowners wonder what the requirements are to have one built in their own home, and the answer is actually more simple than you may think. Your shower base needs to have a coverage of at least 5 to 6 feet in both directions, and these requirements are for obvious reason - and that is the water over splash. As a bathroom remodeler, Premium Bathrooms Crop personally recommends a coverage of at least 5.5 X 5.5 foot minimum. We have water tested open showers and came to the conclusion that typically, water splashes to about 5.5 feet outward. In some cases, you might be able to get away with just 4 or 5 ft. if your shower head is pointing more towards the inner shower wall.

If you do not qualify for an open shower design, hope is not lost! Another option would be to either install a half wall or a partial wall extending outward of your shower to block out most of the water splashing. Contact your local bathroom contractor or us for specifics on these alternatives. As a matter of fact, we would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have on the topic, and can come onsite for a free consultation if we happen to pop up in your 'bathroom remodel near me' search!
